Medicine For The Soul : An Iceland Video

This little video is lovingly titled ‘Medicine For The Soul’ as the trip took place just fourteen days after my beloved Dad tragically passed away.

I won’t go into it too much, as writing that sentence alone is making me choke up but I wanted to share the context behind it with you.

Myself and partner, Dan, had always wanted to visit Iceland but we’re not very good at saving, mostly because our cars are always spontaneously breaking down, but in January we had gathered up enough to start booking things.

We were both really excited about it and shared our most recent travel plans with anyone who would listen. My Dad was especially stoked for us and was looking forward to seeing all the photographs afterwards. He actually taught me how to use a camera when I was a kid and (unknowingly to him then) set me on the path to where I am today, so I have a lot to thank him for. Sadly he never got to hear the stories, see the photos or watch the video and that leaves me with a very heavy heart.

The trip of a lifetime for us became a very different experience to what we were expecting due to the circumstances and timing of it. We thought about cancelling it but my Mum insisted we go and I’m glad we did. In the height of grief and whilst feeling emotionally exhausted, I found solace in the isolated wide open spaces and gargantuan mountains.

Anyway, I’m trying to focus on the positives from it all, like this beautiful video, Dan put together, to sum-up our trip. I hope you enjoy it, I know my Dad would have done.

Filmed on a GH5 with Helios 44m 58mm lens and Isco S8 Animex 2x Anamorphic lens
