My Editing Process and Tribe Archipelago Interview

A couple of weeks ago, Tribe Archipelago reached out to me to take part in an interview for their blog. I was asked to answer a few questions and submit ten images to compliment the piece.

I have been using their presets (primarily the Wolf Pack and Raven Pack sets) as a base for my images for a couple of years now. I have other presents loaded into my Lightroom, including some of my own creation, but I always find myself coming back to thiers.

I lieu of the interview going live on their blog today, I thought it might be nice to share some before and afters of some of the shots I included in the piece.

Before

After

All the photos in this blog have been shot with my Canon 6D and Sigma ART 35mm 1.4 lens. I only have the one lens at the moment, which pushes me to really make the most out of my own positioning in relation to the subject matter.

I’m a strong believer in using as little as possible as I think you tend to learn more about composition and other photography fundamentals that way.

I definitely feel like I have a more defined style now and I’m much more confident in knowing what I want to create. So I’d say my editing has become more focused but I let my experiences govern the moments I capture.

Before

After

I have established a bit more of a defined style for myself these days, where I tend to favour warm tones and dark shadows to add a sense of drama to my images. I only ever use the presets as a starting point and then tweak various things to evoke the right tone and emotion.

That being said, having a starting point to work from can be really helpful.

Before

After

I think as long as I’m slightly scared of what I’m doing then I’m on the right track. There is no end goal for me, I’m just making sure I enjoy the journey.
